Avesa + Greg tied the knot on May 15, 2010 at MacGregor Downs Country Club in Cary, NC. (ironically the same place my hubby and I said our “i dos”). The Cereomony was a gorgeous setting overlooking the golf course at sunset, Avesa + Greg were announced into their first danceand then continued to a sit down dinner, where the tent was transformed into a gorgeous candlelite dinner. Avesa’s middle eastern roots brought a very cool tradition to their dinner. It is custom for Persian/Middle Eastern weddings for parents of the bride and family to give the bride a gift (usually jewels). Once Avesa + Greg were seated for dinner, Avesa’s Grandmother, parents lined up to give the bride + the groom gifts! (what a cool tradition). I thought it extra special that Greg’s family wanted to partake in the tradition even Greg’s brother gave Avesa + Greg a gift. It was an emotional and beautiful ceremony. Normally the bride puts on all of the jewels that she receives, Avesa opted to keep her original ceremony jewelry of Pearls that her parents had given her earlier that day to wear on her wedding…Enjoy their photos!

Back in early December, my intern Lila and I headed down to Savannah, GA to shoot Mary Beck’s bridal portrait. Though she hails from Cary and is getting married in Hilton Head, I really wanted to do her portrait in a town that had a classically Southern vibe, and Savannah–all Spanish moss and brick sidewalks–definitely had the feel I was looking for. Since I attended the Savannah College of Art and Design, I got to know the city quite well in my six years there, and though it’s been awhile since I last visited, I was happy to find the sweet Southern charm was still very much intact.

Mary Beck is such a sweetheart, and despite the fact that we had her trekking all over downtown Savannah (and in four inch heels, no less!), she was friendly, gracious, and open to anything! She wore a gorgeous gown by Reem Acra, and Manolo Blahnik Sedaraby pumps (best known for their appearance on Sex & the City a few years back), which Lila was particularly smitten with. We did most of the shoot in the vicinity of Forsyth Park–a historic park with a very Parisian feel–in order to take advantage of a variety of interesting backdrops. In the span of a block, we managed to get brick walls, overgrown ivy, wrought iron gates, Spanish moss & greenery, and of course the Forsyth Park fountain, which is lovely all the time but particularly stunning at twilight.

Since the shoot itself was relatively short, we were able to have some time in the evening and the next day to take advantage of all the city has to offer–including old friends! We met up with a couple of our favorite locals and headed to dinner at Il Pasticcio–definitely a great place to check out if you’re in Savannah and in the mood for some Italian (Lila almost cried tears of joy over the Pumpkin Sachetti with Piedmont Truffle Cream). The next day, we hit Broughton street for a quick shopping break–our favorites were @home, satchel, and the Savannah Bee Company–and managed to score some Christmas gifts before reluctantly getting back in the car and steeling ourselves for the five hour drive back home. Great bride, great town, great shoot, great trip–and hopefully we’ll be back again soon!

Duke Gardens is such a great place to visit in the spring. Birds are chirping, flowers are blooming and you can take advantage of every shady spot for great photographs. Avesa + Greg were loads of fun and Avesa was a trooper for wearing sexy shoes, walking around the gardens and not once complaining!!! I love it when clients are up for anything.

That is of course the biggest compliment to our shooting style + we are honored to be apart of another Thomas family wedding…it’s so much fun to be passed through the family. It allows our documentary style to really capture personalities. Mary + Cam were also really up for anything on this shoot so we hiked around the park to find the best most secluded places to play around and get some great shots of them together before their big day…as you can see we had alot of fun!

Sarah + Matt exchanged vows on the first perfect spring day in The Triangle on March 20th. Amongst a combination of close friends and family at The Matthews House in Cary, NC…Just down the street from our studio! (if you have not been to the Matthews House in a while you need to check out their new addition, they added a new caterers kitchen which is to die for!) But what I loved most about the addition was the new modern staircase that gave us a great place to shoot some of Sarah + Matt’s Portraits. While I love every little detail that a wedding has to offer, Sarah + Matt emphasized that the most important part of their wedding was the people… Well we can see why. This intimate guest list of 75 kept the party going, okay I should also mention that they had a rockin’ DJ, Ken Holmes, From Joe Bunn DJ Company who played a variety of music that even had Sarah’s Grandma up Dancing!

When Lori asked me to photograph her and Eric’s wedding last year I was thrilled! First because Lori is such a great person, and a fellow wedding vendor if you will, as the events coordinator at The Buffalo Club. Second, because it’s always great to go home, I love Buffalo!

Since both Lori + Eric’s wedding were held at the Buffalo Club (making it so convenient on guests) It was important for me as a photographer being back “home” to showcase some of the jewels of this ”Queen City of the Lakes”. If you have never been to Buffalo the Architecture in itself is amazing. It is one of three cities with buildings by Louis Sullivan, HH Richardson, and Frank Lloyd Wright, architectural gems! We are close to Niagara Falls, A hop away from Canada and yes this March 6th wedding was cold to this now southern based photographer. But it was 40 degrees, sunny and in Buffalo that’s nearly a heat wave in March.

The Buffalo Club (The former Pratt house) is a classical setting for a wedding. From the sunny blue sky’s with a touch of snow on the ground, to the gorgeous natural light lighting, to the rich wood walls, it’s a stunning place to photograph. The ceremony took place in the Millard Fillmore Room and was surrounded by candles and flowers that were deliciously done by Maureen’s Buffalo Wholesale Flower Market . Guests recessed down to the “Reading Room” for cocktails as we took the remaining portraits with family. Lori and Eric cut the cake on the way up to the Fireplace Dining Room , where guests were served a three course meal. Once dinner was over guests enjoyed an evening of cocktails and dancing, and DJ Frank Sansone had everyone out on the dance floor. Even Lori and Eric!

Enjoy the photos. We look forward to returning to Buffalo for many more weddings and events throughout the years!

thanks for having us Lori, Eric, + Kennedy.

Tuesday night we were honored to be a part of The Triangle Chapter of the National Assocition for Catering Exectutives’ (NACE) 2nd Annual Fairytale Wedding to deserving couple Christine and Bob at the Sutherland in Wake Forrest.

The bride had been recently diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer, which upon discovery had already metastasized to her liver and brain. Her neurosurgeon has given her six months to live, as one of the brain tumors is inoperable.

In addition, the couple’s initial wedding site in Garner, originally scheduled for May, had declared bankruptcy; as a result, the couple lost their deposit. Thus, this already struggling couple watched their wedding budget quickly diminish.

There was little question about how deserving these mounting circumstances left the couple, so NACE members stepped in to give this couple who have and continue to undergo tremendous hardships, the wedding of a lifetime.

A number of recognized Triangle wedding vendors banded together to do something bigger than a dream wedding. We created a gorgeous setting and gave a lifetime of memories for Christine and her family to cherish. It was a perfectly orchestrated night, planned by Grace Beason of Grace Leisure Events. (For a more detailed list of vendors that donated everything from the gown, jewelry, getaway car and even their night-after hotel see the end of this post, so many big hearts!)

As a photographer and fellow vendor I can say that last night was different from any wedding I have ever photographed. I was honestly awe struck by the heart that went into creating Christine and Bob’s day. Christine was honored with time spent alongside four generations of women in her family while preparing for her big day. Together, Christine and Bob were allowed to to forget about her serious illness for just a moment and to feel like every couple should on their wedding day.

We truly hope that this was a fairytale for you Christine! We were honored to be a part of it.

Thank you Christine and Bob for allowing us to document your wedding.

Our last wedding of the year was celebrated with Kristen + Ben, two teachers who were born and raised in North Carolina. The couple exchanged vows at Ben’s family church in Sanford–a sweet touch, since generations of his family have married there. Kristen and Ben opted to see each other before the ceremony, which broke some nerves, gave them a sweet moment alone, and (lucky for us) gave time for some photos in the lovely afternoon sun. After saying their “I do’s,” the couple headed to Raleigh, where family and friends gathered for a festive reception at North Carolina’s Museum of History. DJ Randy of Joe Bunn DJ Company kept our feet moving with a classic playlist, and guests were treated to a yummy holiday dinner courtesy of Irregardless Cafe (also one of my fave vegetarian restaurants!). The gorgeous flowers (check out those roses!) were done by Victorian Seasons in Apex, NC.

The night ended with a last dance and a sparkler exit in which Kristen + Ben were seen off in the truck that Ben’s groomsmen so elegantly decorated.

Thank you for having us document your day Kristen + Ben, we look forward to seeing your families next at Cameron’s wedding in July and then Liz’s wedding in August. We love being a part of so many great family memories!!!
